When it comes to getting your kids to eat healthy food you are going to have some ups and downs along the way, that just comes with the process and you aren’t going to change that, it’s a fact.
I’m sure you’ve read things online about how to get your kids eating healthy food and these people just make it seem way too easy, which in turn makes you question whether or not what your doing is the right thing or why you just can’t seem to get your kids to eat the right foods.
But what you need to remember is that…..
It’s Not Easy!
Firstly, you need to realize that it is definitely not easy and anyone who tells you otherwise is either a liar or does not have children and is just trying to sell you something!
But just because it is not easy doesn’t mean you should give up. Believe me, I’ve been there and know how hard it can be sometimes, especially when you’re extremely tired, agitated and just want to sleep!
Although it’s not easy, you can certainly make it a little bit easier on yourself and your child by following these 3 simple tips.
Preparation is key to success
I’m sure you’ve heard the saying “fail to prepare, prepare to fail” before right? Well when it comes to cooking fresh and healthy food, this is a perfect quote and preparing food in advance is the easiest way to ensure you and your kids are going to be eating healthy and delicious food all week long. To quote one of my idols, Joe wicks “Prep like a boss”.
I know at first it may seem like a bit of a daunting task, cooking so much food in one day or over the course of the weekend but trust me, once you get into the habit of doing it, you will definitely not regret it!
In our house we try and make sure we’ve got at least a few extra home cooked meals than we know we’re going to need pre prepared and in the freezer ready for whenever we need them. It is such a satisfying feeling knowing that you’ve got so many delicious and healthy meals for you and the kids ready and waiting for you right there in the freezer, just defrost, reheat and bosh…a beautiful meal.
It’s OK when things don’t go to plan
It can be all too easy to beat yourself up when things don’t go to plan at dinner time, maybe the kids refuse to eat the lovely meal you prepared or maybe you’re just having a nightmare of a day and can’t face cooking something healthy if you’ve had a rough day. Just remember, everybody and I mean EVERYBODY has bad days sometimes, that’s just life!
But the most important thing to remember is that it’s all going to work out in the end, trust me. Just dust yourself off, take some deep breaths and know that it’s all going to be worth it when you know that you have given your kids the best possible tools in order to live a healthy and wholesome life for years to come.
Stick with it!
I know this may seem silly but if you don’t stick with a consistent plan it can be all to simple to slip back and go back to the easy food option which more often than not are going to be the bad food options!
And after all, you’re certainly not going to get the result you want if you give up. Like anything in life, things that are hard are worth doing and sticking with until you get the desired outcome, sticking with a healthy eating regime for you and your children will not only get you the health benefits, but you will also feel a great sense of achievement and joy which will in turn spur you and your kids on to continue these healthy habits well into the future.
For me, these are the three most important factors when it comes to creating a healthy foundation for your kids eating habits, what do you think? Please let me know in the comments below.
