The trick with healthy snacks for your kids is making sure you have plenty available that are quick and easy to make. Children don’t want to be waiting around for you to make something when they’re hungry, they want to have something straight away so they can get out there and play like children should.
Making sure you always have plenty of healthy snacks available for your kids is the key. Plan ahead when you do your weekly shop to ensure there are lots of healthy snacks in the house, ready for when your kids are hungry. Here are a few of ideas for you to try out.
Vegetable Sticks and Dips
These are very quick and simple to prepare and there are a variety of different veggies like carrots, peppers, celery and asparagus. You can also get creative with the dips, you can try things like hummus, salsa, pesto or even blended beetroot.
You can try out lots of different combinations of fruit depending on what you have at home and what you and you kids fancy on that particular day. A good tip is to let your kids choose a selection of fruits to try. It can be easy to just stick with buying the same fruits but try getting a little adventurous with it.
If you don’t have a smoothie maker then I recommend you get one, they are relatively inexpensive these days and are extremely handy to have. Children love experimenting with different flavour combinations and they have fun making them too.
You can try adding diced pineapple or other fruits to the cottage cheese which tastes great. It’s quick, easy and healthy. Cottage cheese has a good source of protein too, a great little snack.
Home Made Fruit Lollipops
Just like with the fruit smoothies home made fruit lollipops or popsicles are great to make. You can try loads of different flavour combinations and they are perfect on those nice sunny days. The great thing with these is, once you’ve made them they are in the freezer ready to be enjoyed whenever you want them.
Fruit and Yoghurt
Another quick and simple snack that children love. You can try adding things like honey as well to liven it up a little. The yoghurt is a good source of calcium too.
Sweet Potato Crisps
These are so easy to make and the kids will think there having a little treat so they’ll love them. All you do is finely slice the sweet potato place them on a baking tray, coat them lightly with olive oil and pop them in the oven until they are nice and crispy.
At the end of the day we all want our kids to be healthy and by making sure that the snacks they eat are healthy and nutritious is so important.
