Here are some meal ideas that are so much fun for you and your kids to make. The reason I like these meals so much is because most of them are very hands on and you can get messy making them which makes them perfect for you to try with your children. Your kids will have so much fun making them and it will get them excited about cooking fresh and healthy food. Use your imagination and you will be able to think of lots and lots of different ideas based around these meals.
Making your own pizzas is a fantastic way to get children involved because they can choose exactly what they want on them and you can even get them to make shapes and smiley faces on the pizzas. You can buy ready made pizza bases but making your own isn’t that difficult so it’s well worth a try. If you make fresh pizzas regularly I would definitely suggest getting yourself a pizza stone for the oven because it really helps to get the lovely crisp base.
The best thing about doing chicken pittas is that you can just get a variety of different fillings and salad etc. laid out on the table for the little ones to pick and choose what they like.
To make things a little different you can use spinach instead of lettuce or maybe add some avocado in there as well. Try to get creative and think of some things that will make them more exciting and different. You don’t even have to use chicken, you could use other meats, fish or even doing them veggie is delicious.
Making your own burgers is super simple and they are much healthier and taste so much better than shop bought ones that it’s silly not to really. You can experiment with different meats such as beef and turkey or even go for a vegetable burger. Try adding different spices and/or vegetables in with the burgers as well to liven them up a bit.
I love to make my own burger buns too, if you’ve never made bread before then you have to give it a try, it’s not as hard as you might think and once you’ve got the hang of it you’ll wonder why you haven’t been doing it before!
Just like with the chicken pittas you can really use your imagination for the fillings of wraps. Try out different meats and vegetables. Give the children a variety of different fillings to try and watch them get stuck in.
Making your own pasta can take a little time and patience to get right but once you get the hang of it you’ll be doing it all the time. It’s also a great way for children to get stuck in and a little messy, which they love!
There are so many different sauces you can make to go with pasta, experiment with different vegetables, meats, fish etc. the possibilities are endless.
Sushi isn’t actually as hard as you may think to make and your kids will love to get creative with the fillings. By creating lots of different varieties of flavours it makes for a very interactive and exciting meal time, it’s definitely worth a go. You can even buy sushi kits in certain supermarkets now which is really handy.
Homemade Fish Fingers
Most kids love fish fingers and if you make them yourself they are much healthier and definitely more tasty too! You could even experiment with different types of fish, one of my personal favourites to use is salmon.
